The Korean boy band BTS became the first K-pop band or artist to win an award at the Billboard Music Awards, one of the most prestigious music ceremonies in the U.S. So what’s BTS's secret?

Upon their arrival to Korea with a Billboard trophy, the K-pop boy band BTS held a news conference. BTS beat world-renowned stars to earn recognition from Billboard just four years after their debut. The BTS members say they did not see this coming at all.

[Soundbite] Suga(BTS Member) : "We didn't expect this at all. We were just happy to attend the ceremony, so we were very surprised to receive an award."

BTS says their secret probably lies in social media. The members communicated with their fans on social media even before their official debut by producing and sharing videos.

[Soundbite] Rap Monster(BTS Member) : "We posted very brief videos. Although it wasn't done intentionally, they contributed greatly to conveying our true feelings."

BTS also drew spotlight by giving their acceptance speech at the Billboard Music Awards in Korean.

[Soundbite] "We will become a better band!"

The success of this purely Korean music band in the global music market has further broadened K-pop's horizons.
