In an economic assessment, the Finance Ministry said that service sector output and spending were gradually on the rise while facility investment was also slowly coming out of the doldrums. But the ministry believes that in exports and investment in construction, adjustment phases are still continuing.
Seoul's chief nuclear envoy Lee Do-hoon held talks with his US counterpart Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun in Washington, after which he told reporters that the two sides agreed to closely coordinate on possible inter-Korean projects from now on. When asked about Biegun's response to the idea of individual South Korean tourism to North Korea, Lee said that he explained sufficiently and discussions will continue.
The Bank of Korea on Friday held its monthly rate setting meeting chaired by governor Lee Ju-yeol and decided to keep its policy rate frozen at 1.25 percent. The rate has been kept steady for three months after hitting the record low level last October.
