The Marathon is the only track and field sport in which South Korea has won a medal in the Olympic Games. South Korean track and field athletes say they are determined to win a medal in Rio. Long jumper Kim Deok-hyeon set a national record recently, raising the hopes of Korean sports fans. Here is more.

Kim Deok-hyeon will participate in the Olympic Games for the third time, having become the nation's first track and field athlete to win entry in long jump and triple jump events in Rio. Expectations are boiling for him, as his new national record of eight meters and 22 centimeters set in last month's European championships is similar to the second best result produced in the London Olympic Games.

[Soundbite] Kim Deok-hyeon(National track and field team) : "I aim to advance to the final in triple jump while winning a medal in long jump."

South Korean jumpers are also receiving considerable expectations. Yun Seung-hyun and Woo Sang-hyeok will participate in the Rio Games for the first time in 16 years since the Sydney Games in 2000. In particular, Yun is expected to win a medal in Rio with his best personal record standing at two-meters and 32 centimeters.

[Soundbite] Yun Seung-hyun(National track and field team) : "My physical condition is good. So I think I will be able to win an Olympic medal if I produce a result matching a national record."

South Korean track and field athletes are set to make a leap toward the dream of winning Olympic medals for the first time.
