Finance Minister Hong Nam-ki has hinted at intervening in the local foreign exchange market, saying the government will actively respond to the continuing strengthening of the Korean won against the dollar. He noted the won has remained on an upward trend, appreciating at the fastest pace among major global currencies over the past two months. Hong stressed the government is keeping a close eye on the foreign exchange market, as excessive swings in the value of the local currency is not desirable.
