In today’s first story, the South Korean government and the ruling party have announced that they will to push forward the implementation of the nation's military response system to counter rising nuclear and missile threats from North Korea. Here’s more.

South Korea three-pronged defense system consists of the Kill Chain preemptive strike system used when the signs of a pending missile attack are clear, the Korea Air and Missile Defense system for intercepting North Korean missiles, and the Korea Massive Punishment & Retaliation system targeting the North Korean leadership including Kim Jong-un. The South Korean government and the ruling party have decided to build the three-element defense system two to three years sooner than was initially scheduled in order to counter Pyongyang's nuclear and missile provocations.

[Soundbite] Rep. Kim Kwang-rim(Saenuri Party) : "We have agreed that it is necessary to push forward the implementation of the initial response system from the mid-2020s to the early 2020s."

Under the plan, the military will adopt one more ballistic missile early warning radar next year. The radars are necessary to track North Korea's ballistic missiles. The military will also secure 90 more air-to-surface "Taurus" missiles, and deploy maritime and utility helicopters to beef up its anti-submarine warfare capabilities. To bolster the nation's reconnaissance capabilities, the military is reportedly considering borrowing Israel's reconnaissance satellites.
