Germany's prosecution revealed for the first time that it is investigating Choi Soon-sil and her daughter over money laundering suspicions. Let’s find out more.

German prosecutors announced that they are investigating allegations of money laundering against Choi Soon-sil and her daughter, Chung Yoo-ra. Helmut Fünfsinn, prosecutor general for the state of Hessen who is visiting South Korea for a conference, held an interview with a domestic media outlet. He said that prosecutors in Frankfurt are investigating a number of suspects over money laundering allegations, including Choi and her daughter. Since May, German prosecutors have been probing money laundering allegations against a company based in Schmitten after a local bank filed an accusation. This marks the first time that prosecutors confirmed that Choi and her daughter are suspects in their probe. Previously, prosecutors had only revealed that they were investigating three South Korean nationals and one German. Regarding the money laundering allegations, Prosecutor General Fünfsinn added that Choi played a key role. However, he stopped short of elaborating, saying he cannot respond in detail to questions about individual cases.
