On Thursday we reported about Chinese police warning South Korean nationals about North Korea's terrorist threat in China. South Korea's Foreign Ministry says that five of the people on the list of possible terror targets have already returned to Korea. Sources dealing with North Korea say that preparations to conduct acts of terror on South Koreans residing in China began last year.

Twelve workers of a North Korean restaurant defected from the North en masse in April last year. Sources dealing with North Korea say that shortly after their defections the North began preparations to kidnap South Korean nationals in China. The regime planned to kidnap South Koreans by administering anesthetics in the VIP rooms of North Korean restaurants.

[Soundbite] (Former Manager of N. Korean Restaurant in China (Voice modified)) : "Every restaurant has one or two secret VVIP rooms for customers. When the doors are closed, there is no way to know what's going on inside."

South Korea's Foreign Ministry says that five South Korean nationals residing in the border area, such as Yanji and Dandong, where more agents from the North's Reconnaissance General Bureau have been deployed, have returned to their home country upon receiving a warning from Chinese police. The remaining South Koreans who are still in China either have left the border area or are avoiding contact with the outside world. The atmosphere in the South Korean community in Dandong has been bleak amid the tough sanctions against the North implemented by the international community and China as well as economic depression and terrorist threat. The fact that the Chinese authorities are proactively preparing for the possibility of terrorist attacks is not only unprecedented but also unnerving as well. The South Korean government has been watching the situation in China's border area and vowed to take necessary measures in cooperation with the Chinese authorities to protect its citizens.
