There are few better feelings of satisfaction that actually getting your hands dirty and doing something for yourself. A "make-it-yourself" phenomenon is spreading worldwide, and Korea has embraced the industrious culture.

Students are at work making something at a shared workshop. This is a trash can that can automatically sort leftover beverages and cups.

[Soundbite] Kim Young-seo(Student, Seoul National Univ.) : "It is inconvenient to separate cups at a coffee shop. I thought hard about ways to fix the problem."

There is a glass cup that emits light when clinked during a toast.

[Soundbite] Lee Sang-hyup(Office Worker) : "Beginning from the idea of a cup that shines during a toast, I came up with the way to use a vibration sensor and LED lighting."

A "make-it-yourself" campaign encourages people to create things themselves and realize their imaginative ideas. It is a collaborative project carried out at a team workshop equipped with top-of-the-line devices. The U.S. has established shared workshops at 1,000 schools, setting the "make-it-yourself" campaign as a new national innovation strategy.

[Soundbite] Prof. Lee Ji-sun(Sookmyung Women's Univ.) : "The future is the age of creativity. People can become competent and create new industries in the creative age only when they themselves make something creative."

The campaign is spreading worldwide thanks to the development of technology and information sharing through the Internet.
