The government has announced that it will provide more support to areas that combine the service and IT sectors, like telemedicine, and ease the relevant regulations. Let’s take a look.

A doctor on a monitor diagnoses a patient remotely, as if the two are sitting face to face. The doctor can even examine the patient's body using medical equipment. Measuring patients' blood pressure and temperature as well as checking their blood and skin is also possible. However, this technology has not been commercialized for nearly a decade because it's currently banned by Medical Law.

[Soundbite] Jeon Jin-ok(CEO, System Development Company) : "It's sad that such projects have been banned so far by the legislative system."

The government has decided to permit telemedicine in remote areas where residents have poor access to healthcare. The government will also support projects to establish big data on healthcare to ensure that anyone can receive healthcare services.

[Soundbite] Yoo Il-ho(Deputy Prime Minister) : "We will support innovative medical fields such as telemedicine and precision medicine to improve public health."

In doing so, the government plans to create jobs in the smart healthcare and healthcare big data management fields. The government's plan on reviving the service sector also includes the development and supply of digital textbooks. The public will be able to choose travel destinations after checking them out in advance through virtual reality. Starting next year, residents in remote areas and islands will likely be able to receive packages through drone delivery.
