Korea has won a one-billion-dollar contract for the operation of nuclear power plants in the United Arab Emirates. Three thousand Korean professionals will be dispatched to the UAE to carry out the project by 2030.

This is a nuclear power plant that Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power has been building in Barakah, United Arab Emirates. Currently four nuclear power reactors are under construction. Upon their completion they will be operated by Koreans. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power has signed a deal with the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation on the plant operation. The deal is worth about one billion U.S. dollars, including a 600-million-dollar Operating Support Services Agreement and a 300-million-dollar deal on housing and training support for employees. It's Korea's first time exporting its nuclear power operation personnel. Starting in May next year, 210 Korean professionals will be dispatched to the UAE each year until 2030. Each of the three thousand Korean workers will receive around 260,000 dollars annually.

[Soundbite] Cho Seok(President, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power) : "We have operated nuclear power plants for 40 years and have accumulated relevant technologies. By exporting our technologies, we will be able to publicize Korea's superb nuclear power technologies all over the world."

The United Arab Emirates is said to have plans to build four more nuclear power reactors, raising hopes that the deal could help Korea win more orders for nuclear power plant construction in the Middle Eastern nation.
