We begin with a wave of recent executions in North Korea as part of leader Kim Jong-un’s reign of terror. The latest to fall victim, as confirmed by the South’s Unification Ministry, was a deputy premier for education in the North, Kim Yong-jin. Here’s more on the recent executions.

At the Supreme People's Assembly back in June, Kim Yong-chol was seated next to Kim Jong-un at the center of the podium. Kim Yong-chol was promoted quickly, serving as head of the United Front Department, secretary of relations with the South and vice chairman of the North's Workers' Party. But sources say that just two weeks later, in mid-July, he received so-called "revolutionary punishment" at a rural farm before resuming his duties in late August. The reason of his punishment was excessive expansion of the United Front Department's authority through coercive attitude and power abuse. Sources say that the vice chief of the North's Propaganda and Agitation Department, Choi Hui, who visited China with the Moranbong band, has been also receiving "revolutionary punishment" since late May. He was punished for receiving criticism from Kim Jong-un for the way he carries out propaganda projects. The vice premier of the North Korean cabinet, Kim Yong-jin, has been found to have been executed in July for his disrespectful attitude.
