As Donald Trump was likely to win the U.S. presidential election, Cheong Wa Dae convened a session of the National Security Council. It is because Trumps' victory can bring huge changes to South Korea's security and economy. President Park Geun-hye ordered her aides to devise measures to curb negative effects of Trump's election on South Korea's economy and security.
[Soundbite] President Park Geun-hye : "We should establish cooperative relations with the next U.S. administration early from the stage of its transition committee, given that the situation is grave with escalating missile threats from North Korea."
Park then sent a congratulatory message to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and his vice president Mike Pence. While congratulating them on their victory, she expressed expectations that the two countries will further strengthen bilateral cooperation for the resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue and development of Seoul-Washington alliance.
