A so-called super moon shone over the earth on Monday night. While it was a visual spectacle, there are some concerns over damages caused by unusually high sea levels as a result of the moon’s gravitational pull, expected to last through Thursday.

A supermoon shone over the earth for the first time in 68 years since 1948. The moon is 14 percent larger in diameter and 30 percent brighter, compared to the smallest moon observed in April this year. The phenomenon was observed, as the distance between the moon and the earth was shortened by more than 20,000 kilometers. The moon coming closer to the earth also makes gravitational forces stronger.

In Incheon at Sorae port, rising sea levels sent ocean water flowing onto land at ankle height.Sea levels will grow higher starting from Tuesday. And in some regions, the levels will be up to six centimeters higher than last month. In low-lying coastal areas, it is recommended to make drainage pumps ready until Thursday and to tie and fix ships. Tourists are advised to take extra caution for their safety, as they can get isolated at sea in an instant during rising tides.
