Actors are recording audio books for people with visual impairments. It’s a great way for the visually impaired to get their literary fix with a dramatic flare. Here is more.
[Soundbite] "You are Mercutio, who was always with Romeo."

With realistic acting that brings to mind a stage performance, a play is performed entirely with sounds. Veteran theatrical actors with experience spanning ten years or more have been producing audio books for the visually impaired since 2013. This year's production is "Othello," one of William Shakespeare's four great tragedies. The recording procedure takes a month from practice to production, requiring the same effort and time as a stage performance.
[Soundbite] Chae Yoon-hee(Actress, Gyeonggi Provincial Theater Company) : "It is difficult to express each look, emotion and chemistry with other actors in detail with one's voice alone."
CDs of the audio book were distributed free of charge to some 100 venues, including Braille libraries and welfare centers. More three-dimensional reading is made possible compared to other audio books read by a single narrator, which is why the productions are so popular that borrowing them requires a reservation.
[Soundbite] Boo Ki-dong(Category-2 Visual Disability) : "A dramatized book with a division of roles is more fun than a straightforward narration."
The donation of talent by actors has become a special gift for those who long to read.
