Thanks to the enthusiasm and participation of TV viewers, 2016 was another rewarding year for KBS news. KBS has selected and awarded seven citizen reporters for their contributions to making KBS news more vivid and accurate.

The heroic acts of a security guard and a part-timer at a convenience store who risked their lives to rescue a driver from a burning car became known to the world thanks to a resident of a nearby apartment building.

[Soundbite] Kang Hee-soon(KBS Citizen Reporter Top Prize Winner’s Wife) : "My husband taped the accident because he wanted the world to know that there are still heroic people out there."

A blaze in a 13-story commercial building in a downtown area was also covered in real time by an ordinary citizen.

[Soundbite] Kim Yong-woo(KBS Citizen Reporter Bronze Prize) : "I wanted to let people know about this emergency."

A single photograph taken more than 120 years ago and provided by a civic group this year has served as a valuable clue to finding mistakes in the restoration of a cultural property.

[Soundbite] Hye Mun(KBS Citizen Reporter Silver Prize) : "I think it was a meaningful opportunity to catch mistakes right away."

KBS has awarded seven citizens for their contributions to covering the news this year. More than 40,000 reports have been received over the past year via smartphone and other devices. KBS plans to promote the use of reports provided by the public to improve communication with viewers.
