A survey was held asking people which TV drama couples who were crowned at the 3 terrestrial broadcasters' year end award ceremonies they want to see really come together in real life. Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo from the mega hit series "Descendants of the Sun" took first place at 16.4 percent. The so-called Song-Song couple won multiple awards at the 2016 KBS Drama Awards including for best couple, Asia's top couple and a joint Grand Prize, and testified to their couple power. Taking second place were Hyun Woo and Lee Se-yeong from the drama "Laurel Tree Tailors" at 11 percent. Park Bo-gum and Kim Yoo-jung from "Love in the Moonlight" came in third with 8.7 percent. The duo Akdong Musician or AKMU's new album "Winter" has been hailed in the U.S. upon its release. U.S. Billboard magazine said the album is infused with the band's characteristic quirky and sentimental appeal. Akdong Musician debuted on a TV audition show. Billboard also covered the back story and what's behind their popularity.
[Soundbite] Lee Chan-hyuk(Akdong Musician) : "Our songs are pop music heavy on Korean sensibility. We are so grateful that foreign fans love our music."
AKMU is off to a great start in the new year and best wishes for more of their global performance down the road. More and more foreign actors are appearing in Korean films. Last year, Japanese actor Kunimura Jun who appeared in the Korean movie "The Wailing" received the best supporting actor award at the Blue Dragon Awards as the first ever foreign star to win the honor. In the film "Master," an actor turned Filipino politician played the role of the mayor of Manila. Taiwanese actor Berlin Chen has already appeared twice in Korean movies, and this trend is continuing. American heartthrob Chris Evans best known for his Captain America character also played a part in "Snowpiercer", while Liam Neeson played General Douglas MacArthur in the Korean war film "Operation Chromite." The foreign cast lineup in Korea's film industry is growing ever more star-studded. This reflects the fact that Korea's film industry has grown in size and boasts a greater global profile. This is why big names like actress Tilda Swinton who also appeared in "Snowpiercer" have come out as joint producers of Korean films. Look forward to seeing a wide spectrum of foreign actors in Korean cinema in the coming years as well.
