Returning home after wrapping up his ten years as UN chief, Ban vowed to make the divided nation of South Korea a top-ranking nation, strongly hinting at his intention to run for president.

[Soundbite] Ban Ki-moon(Former UN Secretary-General) : "If asked whether I intend to give my all for my country and the people, I would say that I certainly will."

Ban said he will soon reach an "unselfish decision" after hearing the views of the people. He then criticized the existing political sector as he called for a change in politics instead of government, stressing that politicians are still quarreling over their own interests while disregarding public sentiment. Ban underlined the need for a grand national integration and the end of wealth inequality as well as ideological, regional and generational rifts.

[Soundbite] Ban Ki-moon(Former UN Secretary-General) : "A further division of the country and society resulting from political strife would be a national catastrophe. There is no more time to waste."

Ban said there is no problem in his running for president under UN conventions and Korea's Public Official Election Act, adding that UN authorities will soon reach an authoritative interpretation on the matter.
