Industries across the board are striving to develop artificial intelligence. POSCO's Gwangyang Works has introduced an artificial intelligence steel mill for the first time in Korea. Let's take a look.

This is a process to produce steel plates used in automobiles, a high value-added steel product. The key technology in the process is to plate steel sheets with melted zinc as elaborately as possible. It is not easy to meet automakers' varying demands for the thickness of steel plates. At this plant, an artificial intelligence controller has taken over the mission of calculating the thickness. This is the nation's first artificial intelligence steel mill.
[Soundbite] Jang Tae-in(POSCO Technology Research Institute) : "Production technology could be assembled via big data through cooperation among the industrial, academic and research sectors. The AI automatic plating control technology was completed through real-time self-learning and a new process model."
The introduction of artificial intelligence has significantly reduced the amount of errors in plating from seven grams per one square meters to zero-point-five grams. POSCO introduced the zinc plating technology early this year. The steelmaker plans to expand the use of artificial intelligence to other plants at home and overseas, and also apply it to smart equipment and energy sectors.
