Samsung has unveiled its new Galaxy S8 smartphone in New York. The new model boasts a full range of cutting-edge features not seen before. Samsung needs a hit in light of the Galaxy Note 7 battery fire debacle.

The most evident feature of Samsung Electronics' new Galaxy S8 smartphone is the larger screen. The screen size ratio increases to 83 percent by minimizing all features on the front. The home button has also been removed.

The S8 also supports fingerprint, iris and now even face recognition technology. The Galaxy series also applies for the first time a virtual assistant function, which is an artificial intelligence program developed by Samsung. The AI assistant continuously studies the user's traits and is able to carry out complex orders, the more it is used by the phone user. Samsung has also introduced an auxiliary device which can copy the phone screen onto a computer monitor or conduct virtual reality live broadcasts.

The tech giant has also established an 8-stage inspection procedure to boost the safety of its batteries, which caused fires in the Galaxy Note 7. Some 2,000 consumers from all around the world including Asia, Europe and South America gathered to witness the unveiling of Samsung's new smartphone following the battery explosion fiasco. The Galaxy S8 will hit markets April 21st. The world is keenly observing whether the Korean tech firm will be able to rise above its battery fire incident and make a comeback.
