U.S. President Trump officially announced that North Korean issues will be important on the agenda at the U.S.-China summit. During his meeting with business leaders at the White House, Trump strongly stated that North Korea is a problem for mankind and that he would discuss North Korean issues with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He is also likely to make firm demands to President Xi Jinping at the summit by requesting that China play a more active role in resolving North Korea's nuclear and missile threats. Even the U.S. Congress came to Trump's aid. Twenty-six American senators sent a joint letter to President Trump, urging him to put pressure on China. In the letter the senators made a strong appeal to the American president to urge China to stop taking unfair retaliatory measures against South Korea for hosting a THAAD battery and to carve out a productive role in denuclearizing North Korea. The senators also complained that China's retaliations against South Korea for the THAAD deployment are aimed at stirring up political conflicts within South Korea and are coming between South Korea and the U.S. It has become more likely that China's THAAD-related retaliations will become a key agenda item in the upcoming U.S.-China summit.
