U.S. President Donald Trump has welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping to his Florida resort Mar-a-Lago in the United States. The summit has drawn significant attention here in South Korea because the North Korean nuclear program is expected to be an important part of the agenda.

U.S. President Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to his resort in Florida for a bilateral summit. The summit began with an official dinner on April 6 at 6:30 p.m. local time. The formal meetings will begin on the morning of April 7, and the summit will end with an official luncheon. The North Korean nuclear issue and trade top the summit's agenda. President Trump had continuously pressured Beijing over the North Korea issue, and brought it up on multiple occasions. In a private jet on his way to Florida, Trump told reporters that Washington is ready to take unilateral action if Beijing fails to intensify pressure on Pyongyang. In an interview with Fox News in Washington prior to his trip, the U.S. president also said that he would present options for solving the North Korea issue during his summit with the Chinese leader. Trump expressed confidence in a positive outcome. Beijing maintains its stance on combining sanctions with dialogue as a way to deal with Pyongyang. The outcome of the U.S.-China summit will largely be determined by whether or not the two leaders will be able to reach an agreement on the North Korea nuclear issue.
