The Cannes Film Festival opens next month. Which Korean films and actors will be invited to the film gala this year? Take a look at our potential list.

It remains to be seen whether the Korean film "Battleship Island" will be screened in front of worldwide viewers. The film is based on a real story about forced military conscription during the Japanese colonial era. The Cannes Film Festival's official newspaper the Screen Daily has projected films that are likely to make it to Cannes this year from each country. Four Korean films have been listed. Battleship Island stars Song Joong-ki as well as Hwang Jung-min who appeared in "The Wailing" which was invited to Cannes last year. There's anticipation that Cannes is giving attention to "Battleship Island" for its historical significance. Director Bong Jun-ho's "Okja" portrays a friendship between a human and a mutant animal. It's planning a debut screening at Cannes. The monster movie "Okja" already has global buzz for its 53 million dollar production price tag and Brad Pitt joining as a producer. Foreign media have also cited "Glass Garden" starring actress Moon Geun-young and director Hong Sang-soo's latest film "Claire's Camera" as possible candidates to be showcased at Cannes. The Cannes Film Festival will hold a news conference later this month to announce the list of films invited to the prestigious event. It's to be seen whether a large number of Korean films will be included this year as was the case last year.
