President Moon Jae-in has announced the nominees for diplomatic and economic posts. Ajou University President Kim Dong-yeon was nominated for Deputy Prime Minister of Economy, while senior adviser on policy for the U.N. Secretary General Kang Kyung-wha was nominated for Foreign Affairs Minister.

President Moon Jae-in nominated Ajou University President Kim Dong-yeon as the new administration's first Deputy Prime Minister of Economy and Strategy and Finance Minister. Kim is from Eumseong, Chungcheongbuk-do Province and is a graduate of Duksoo Commercial High School. After passing the civil service exam, he went on to hold various public positions, such as the Second Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance and the Minister of Office for Government Policy Coordination.

[Soundbite] Pres. Moon Jae-in : "I deemed him right for the post of Deputy Premier of Economy at this time, given that he is a capable economic bureaucrat whose far-seeing economic insight and coordination capability have already been proven."

Senior Adviser on Policy to the U.N. Secretary-General Kang Kyung-wha was named for the first Foreign Affairs Minister of the new government. She served as a director-general at the Korean Foreign Affairs Ministry and has been working for the U.N. since 2006. Kang cut short her business trip to Switzerland and flew back to New York. She said she is grateful for President Moon's trust in her and cited the North Korean nuclear issue as the top priority.

[Soundbite] Kang Kyung-wha(Foreign Affairs Minister Nominee) : "Although I haven't directly handled North Korean nuclear issues, I have been involved in various issues on the global stage and I intend to use that experience to make a difference."

Kang plans to return to Korea within a few days after wrapping up her more than decade-long career at the U.N.
