President Moon Jae-in has installed an electronic board in his office showing the latest job market figures. He is determined to personally monitor information on the labor market and see the results of policies designed to solve severe unemployment in the nation.
[Soundbite] Pres. Moon Jae-in : "The employment rate in our country is nearly 10 percent lower than the OECD average. This shows how severe the youth unemployment is."
The large LED board displays data on 18 items, including the employment rate, the number of employed people, wage gaps, quality of jobs, the country's economic growth rate and consumer prices. President Moon said he wants to grasp information on the job situation in large corporations and companies that hire many irregular workers.
[Soundbite] Pres. Moon Jae-in : "Just installing a board is not enough. What matters more is the results of our policies. I hope all of us will strive hard."
President Moon has also unveiled his new office in the Yeomingwan Wing of Cheong Wa Dae, which used to be the office of the presidential secretariat. The new office is only half the size of the presidential office in the main building of the Blue House. It is now equipped with a round table. The president has decided to work in the new office unless there are official events such as presentations of letters of appointments. Cheong Wa Dae plans to disclose the data on the president's job market situation board via the Internet and smartphones.
