Children donning red scarves line up in front of three light airplanes. They are publicized as a gift for Kim Jong-un from the Korea Children's Union.
[Soundbite] Korean Central TV(N. Korea) : "The airplanes represent the young boys' patriotism and dedication to the revolution."
To thank the children's union for the airplanes, Kim Jong-un organized a grandiose event in Pyongyang featuring union members from across the nation. The North Korean media even introduced images showing the union members having fun at resorts.
[Soundbite] N. Korean Child : "Our leader presented us with these amazing sea creatures to help us learn and show us how much he loves us."
Since Kim Jong-un took power, he has shown particular interest in young children by establishing children's hospitals and orphanages.
[Soundbite] Choi Kyung-hee(Hanyang Univ. Research Inst. for Contemporary Korean Studies) : "The North Korean leader is apparently trying to foster the young generation into his commandos."
The North Korean regime is stepping up efforts to display love for children and idolize its young leader, because the young generation is essential for tightening his grip in the long-term.
