The presidential office has welcomed a new family member into the president’s household. He’s a rescue dog named Tory. President Moon Jae-in promised to adopt the stray during his campaign. Here’s more.

President Moon Jae-in holds a black dog. The canine appears very comfortable in his embrace. The stray dog Tory which Moon had promised to adopt during campaigning has finally entered the presidential residence. Tory was rescued from a deserted house in Namyangju and had been waiting for an owner for 2 years. It took 2 months since the presidential election to bring the dog to the Cheong Wa Dae due to adoption procedures. President Moon personally signed the adoption confirmation document and was also briefed on the canine's health records and personality traits from an animal rights organization. The president noted that 300-thousand animals are abandoned each year and said that it's time for society as a whole to take an interest in the issue. The world's very first rescue dog-turned-first dog Tory joins President Moon's two other pets -- a Pungsan dog named "Maru" and a cat named "Jjing-jjing" as it begins a new life in the nation's top office.
