Police have apprehended the suspect in the murder of an elderly woman in Gangneung 12 years ago. The decisive clue was a sliver of the suspect's fingerprints left on the adhesive tape that he used to commit the crime.

An elderly woman in her 70s was found dead in her house in Gangneung in 2005. Her hands and feet were tied up with a telephone cord, and her face was covered in adhesive tape. The case would have remained a mystery forever had police not found the suspect 12 years after the crime.

[Soundbite] "You have the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney."

The decisive clue was a fraction of the suspect's fingerprints found at the crime scene. At the time of the initial investigation the suspect's fingerprints were not clear enough to identify him. But with the advancement of fingerprint detection technologies, investigators were able to enhance the clarity of the image of the collected fingerprints and identify who they belonged to.

[Soundbite] Yang Seung-hyun(Gangwon Provincial Police Agency) : "At the time, it was difficult to identify the fingerprints, because they overlapped with text."

The bereaved family of the victim were relieved to hear that the perpetrator had been found.

[Soundbite] Han Sung-hee(Victim's Son) : "I thought it would remain a mystery forever. I feel relieved now that the culprit has been found."

However, sources say that the suspect continues to deny the crime despite the clear evidence.
