This year's Busan International Film Festival is already halfway through. This year, it is being held with a more festive tone compared with last year, when things looked quite gloomy because of the scandal over the government's blacklist of artists, cuts in state funding and a boycott in the film sector.

Meeting with movie stars against the scenic backdrop of the sea off Haeundae Beach in Busan is the highlight of the Busan International Film Festival. Last year the event was cancelled altogether because of a typhoon, but this year it was attended by many big names in Korean cinematography.

[Soundbite] Moon So-ri (Actress & Film Director) : "I want to continue to contribute to the Busan International Film Festival so that people can enjoy it."

Films of outstanding quality that are not typically screened in theaters as well as world premieres are the best gifts for movie fans.

[Soundbite] Sohn Jung-min (Daegu Resident) : "It was great to see high-quality films of diverse genres and nationalities."

Many globally renowned film directors also attended the festival this year, contributing to enhancing its status. They include John Woo, Oliver Stone, Hirokazu Koreeda and Jia Zhangke.

[Soundbite] Nam Dong-chul (BIFF Programmer) : "Many film directors visit Busan, because here they can see viewers' reaction firsthand and receive a chance to introduce their movies to other film festivals and markets."

However, many renowened Korean film directors did not attend the festival, as they continued their boycott against the Busan City government's intervention in the festival.
