India is a powerhouse in the textile industry where factories producing textiles in the very traditional way and advanced cutting-edge fashion exist side by side. In what’s considered to be part of the Korean Wave in the tech sector, Korean firms are increasing their presence in the Indian market, particularly when it comes to functional fabrics.

This lady is winding cocoon thread on a reel, a traditional sight still commonly seen in India. In the vicinity, there is a factory that produces threads for the fabric of high elasticity jeans. From 5 years ago, threads have been supplied by a Korean firm instead of a US company. This is because the Korean firm provides a more customized service ranging from production process management to the development of new products.

Thanks to such efforts, Korean firms have raised their share to 60% in the Indian market for spandex thread.
[Soundbite] Jang Woo-seok(Company Official) : "We have technicians stationed in various Indian regions. They visit clients in advance to prevent potential problems from arising."
Even the Indian government is striving to to attract Korean investment and plants to India in the textile sector. Some 45 million Indian people work in the textile industry. Now it's time to think of ways to jointly utilize India's abundant workforce and Korea's advanced technology.
