The ongoing cold snap might be good news for some vendors. The sales of winter necessities, such as thick clothes and heaters, have seen a boom amid the frigid conditions.​​

A winter goods section at a supermarket is crowded with shoppers during the daytime on a weekday. From thick jackets to winter shoes, customers are busy shopping for clothes to warm them up in the cold season.

[Soundbite] Park Seong-san(Cheongju Resident) : "I didn't wear a muffler originally. But the cold weather has made me come out to buy a muffler."

The sales of winter necessities are booming, as people are rapidly purchasing winter goods due to the early arrival of a cold snap. This shopping mall housing roughly 80 clothing stores is also enjoying a business boom with the surging sales of winter clothes.

[Soundbite] Chang Hae-hoon(Shopping Mall Employee) : "The temperature has significantly dropped now, compared to last week. The sales of long padded jackets and coats have grown some 30 percent week on week."

Demand is soaring for heaters and electric heating mats. The sales of radiators, which were unpopular until last week, have grown more than five-fold.

[Soundbite] Kim Min-kyu(Home Appliance Shop Employee) : "Some eight radiators have already sold today. Radiators are in demand for protecting water pipes."

The distribution industry is busy receiving shoppers who want to make full preparations for the bitter cold.
