Much of the heavy snow has melted but roads that don’t get a lot of traffic are now covered in ice. More snow – up to 10 centimeters – is forecast to fall on Wednesday.

The Yeouido area in Seoul is completely covered in snow. Seven centimeters of snow has turned the capital city into a winter wonderland. Temperatures plunged over night and the puffy snow has given way to icy roads. On downhill roads, pedestrians are more careful and avoid frozen sections.

[Soundbite] Jeong Cheol-gun(Seoul Resident) : "The snow freezes and it's not easy to walk around. (Did you fall?) Yes."

The 119 rescue squad has responded to some 36-hundred calls for assistance related to the snowfall in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province alone. Around 420 cases involved injuries from falling on slippery roads.

[Soundbite] Son Ho-jeong(Fire & Disaster Headquarters) : "On slippery roads, walk like a penguin in soft steps to prevent tripping."

Meanwhile, amid the continued cold wave, huge icicles have formed on the verandas of an apartment complex in Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do Province. Water pipes had burst and the water trickled down and froze. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts as much as ten centimeters of snow will begin to fall in Seoul and the metropolitan area from Wednesday evening.
