In a fire, every second counts. In Ulsan, cars on a crowded road made way for a firetruck racing toward an emergency. The quick action on the part of the drivers helped prevent a much more devastating outcome.

On a weekend afternoon, this two-lane road is packed with cars. A fire truck, ringing its siren, approaches the vehicles, and the cars step aside, making way. Unbelievably the road has now space for the fire truck to pass through. Firemen were on their way to a store near a traditional market where fire was reported.
[Soundbite] Woo Jae-hwan(Nearby Vendor) : "A big fire would cause devastating damage as the stores are clustered on the roadside. So everyone came out shouting."
It was a weekend afternoon and it was difficult for the truck to access a market area. But thanks to the drivers who made way, the fire engine could pass through the road in one minute. It would have normally taken over five minutes. Property damage from the fire was estimated at some 20 million won but there were no casualties or any secondary accidents triggered by the fire.
[Soundbite] Choi Woo-yeong(Rescue Squad, Jungbu Fire Station, Ulsan) : "All we were thinking was just reaching the scene on time. Fortunately, citizens came to the rescue and made way for us."
A beautiful action displayed by citizens at a critical moment helped enormously to reduce losses.
