At a meeting with his senior aides, President Moon Jae-in said that the upcoming summit talks between Seoul and Pyongyang as well as between Pyongyang and Washington will present opportunities for denuclearization and establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula along with co-prosperity for the two Koreas. Moon stressed that should the talks proceed successfully, there would be a dramatic change in world history, in which South Korea would play a pivotal role. He urged his administration to seize this important opportunity for the nation as a whole as opposed to putting a feather in the current government's cap.

The president called for public consensus that transcends ideological and political differences, adding that it's still too early to be optimistic, as no one has succeeded in this so far.

[Soundbite] Pres. Moon Jae-in : "I urge the public to join forces to help hold the meetings successfully."

Cheong Wa Dae will hold the first meeting of the inter-Korean talks preparation committee later this week. Working-level meetings between the two Koreas will likely begin as early as next week. Sources say that a special entity will be launched next week to determine the date, place and agenda of the North Korea-U.S. talks. Cheong Wa Dae says that Seoul is looking for ways to provide indirect support to facilitate the talks.
