Two pilots died when a fighter jet crashed into a mountain in Gyeongsangbukdo Province Thursday afternoon. The bodies of the two airmen operating the Air Force F-15K fighter jet were uncovered with the debris.

An Air Force F-15K fighter crashed into Yuhaksan Mountain in Chilgok county in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province at around 2:38 pm Thursday local time. The aircraft took off an hour ago from Daegu Air Base and was returning after an hour-long mission. Following the crash, an explosion was heard for about 30 minutes in a nearby village and golf course. The military, police and fire department mobilized some 200 people for a search operation. A team recovered remains of one pilot on the front seat two hours after the incident, on the upper ridge of the mountain. Some aircraft debris was also salvaged. No civilian damage has been reported. The Air Force has set up a response HQ on the crash and is looking into the cause of the accident.
