The nation's top office announced President Moon Jae-in will depart on Sunday for a six-day state visit to India and Singapore. According to the Cheongwadae, the visit is focused on strengthening economic cooperation and uncovering new future growth engines in the two countries that are key partners in Korea's New Southern Policy initiative.

[Soundbite] Kim Hyun-chul (Presidential Aide on Economy): "The visit is significant in bolstering efforts to help Korean firms' advance into South Asia."

While in India, the liberal leader will attend a ceremony marking the completion of a Samsung Electronics plant. The tech titan invested 650 million dollars into building the largest mobile phone factory in that country. This is the first time Moon is attending an event related to Samsung Group since taking office. Pundits say the company's vice chair will most likely attend that event. Lee Jae-yong is undergoing trial for involvement in the massive influence peddling scandal surrounding the Park Geun-hye administration. The top office highlighted the president's visit to the plant is in line with his administration's policy of supporting investment and job creation, adding there should be no political interpretation of the move. President Moon and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also hold a meeting with leading business figures of the two countries. He will then fly to Singapore and deliver a speech to the island state's key opinion leaders on the 13th, the last day of his two-nation tour.
