The US State Department earlier mentioned the two sides agreed to hold the summit at the end of February. The summit announcement is expected to come before February fifth when Trump is scheduled to give his State of the Union Address. He also gave more details regarding the summit's location.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo previously announced he dispatched a team to lay the groundwork for the next summit, which is to happen in "some place in Asia." U.S. media speculated Vietnam as the likely host country with either Hanoi or Da Nang as the potential site. The American commander in chief also highlighted that Pyongyang really wants the meeting to happen, and that we should observe how it unfolds. Trump's remark on revealing the summit date and venue comes just a day after he refuted projections issued by his intel chiefs, who said the regime is unlikely to give up its nuclear weapons.
