Minister of Economy and Finance Hong Nam-ki announced that the government-led economic recovery plan, the so-called Korean New Deal, will be comprised of large-scale digital IT technology projects and will focus on cultivating industries that does not require direct contact, such as remote medicine, distant learning, and online business.
Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said at today's disaster management meeting that tougher disease prevention measures should be carried out in areas with high foreign populations and that they should be allowed to receive masks and medical treatment without worrying about their legal status. He added that there are about 380,000 unregistered foreigners in Korea and they are likely to not get tested even if they have symptoms, which may cause community infection.
Samsung Electronics announced today its first quarter sales of around 55.3 trillion won and operational profit of 6.45 trillion won and projected that the second quarter performance will be lower due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bank of Korea announced today that it struck a deal with EMart 24, MiniStop Korea, and Hyundai Department Store to launch a service later this year which allows customers to receive loose changes in their bank accounts instead of in coins when shopping in convenience stores or supermarkets.
