Statistics Korea reported today that, according to the 2020 Social Survey, 61.6% of respondents answered that family, government and community should work together to support elderly parents, a 13.3% point increase from two years ago. The findings show that Koreans increasingly think that supporting elderly parents is an issue that should be solved together with the entire society.
An alliance of non-regular workers in Seoul schools announced today that school lunch cooks and other part-time workers in Seoul schools will go on a two-day strike tomorrow to demand a better retirement pension program. The group blamed the Seoul Metropolitan Educational Office for proposing very disappointing solutions at a meeting on establishing an organization in charge of retirement pension. The alliance is comprised of about 11,000 workers, including cooks, nutritionists, childcare providers, and administrative and computing employees.
Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Won-tae stated today that although Korean Air's takeover of Asiana Airlines could cause concerns over monopoly, there will never be any customer inconvenience or price hikes. Cho also made it clear that some routes and personnel overlap given the two carriers' sizes, but that no reorganization is being planned since all employees can be retained through business expansion.
