A dog detective by the name of Quinn, who has helped police sniff out explosives for 11 years, retires next week. Quinn will receive the rank of a lieutenant for his contributions.

A sleek, black shepherd appears at Jeju Airport. The dog thoroughly checks every corner of the airport to find any possible terror objects. Quinn is a veteran sniffer dog that assumed its duties 11 years ago, when the Jeju Special Police Squad was formed. Today Quinn is on his final mission.

[Soundbite] Ass. Ins. Choi Seung-ryeol(Police Sergeant, Jeju Special Police Squad) : "Quinn has had outstanding olfactory sense and courage since birth, so he was deployed as an explosive detection dog in our squad."

Quinn received training in detecting explosives when he was four months old. He participated in important events over 200 times. Nine years ago Quinn found the body of a child who had been missing for 40 days. Quinn is also known as the father of the first cloned police dog in Korea. His offspring is also a sniffer dog. Quinn has worked hard over the past 11 years. This year he turned 11, which is equivalent to 60 years of age in human terms, and will retire next week.

[Soundbite] Ins. Kim Kyung-soo(Police Lieutenant, Jeju Special Police Squad) : "He dedicated a lot of effort to the special police squad and the nation. I hope he will spend the remainder of his life happily with a good owner."

At his retirement ceremony on June 21, Quinn will receive the rank of lieutenant for his contributions and will live as an ordinary dog with a police officer who will be chosen to take care of him.
