In our top story North Korea has fired yet another submarine-launched ballistic missile. The launch is seen as Pyongyang's way of protesting the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercise that started two days ago.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said that North Korea fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile into the East Sea off Sinpo, Hamgyeongnam-do Province on August 24 at around 5:30 a.m. Korean time.It's the North's third submarine-launched ballistic missile to have been fired this year. The missile flew 500 kilometers and entered Japan's air defense identification zone, where it moved over around 80 kilometers. So far the North has tested five submarine-launched ballistic missiles, but their maximum flying range was just 30 kilometers. The Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the latest missile was more technologically advanced than the previous ones. It also added that the latest missile launch represented Pyongyang's outrage over the ongoing South Korea-U.S. military exercise Ulchi Freedom Guardian. The Joint Chiefs of Staff vowed to make a stern response to any provocation from Pyongyang.
