The sun has set in downtown Seoul. Unfamiliar lights come on one by one at Cheonggyecheon stream. A ring of fire spins above the flowing water. And a cellist plays a melodic piece on a stage set against the dancing flames. The mesmerizing atmosphere grabs the attention of passers by.

[Soundbite] Lee Si-nae(Seoul Resident) : "The sculptures are unusual and the floating fire on the river is amazing. There aren't many chances to see sculptures like this."

This fire installation piece was the opening work of the Seoul Street Art Festival created by French theater company Carabosse. Some 1,700 flames have turned Cheonggyecheon into a captivating stage for fire, water, and music displays.

[Soundbite] Kim Jong-seok(Director, Seoul Street Art Festival) : "Cheonggyecheon is the origin of the famous dokkebi stories. The lights displayed represent the ogres and the production incorporated the stories that originated at the stream."

It was a chance to look at an everyday place in a different light through the dancing flames. The Seoul Street Art Festival decorated the streets along the Cheonggye Plaza and Gwanggyo bridge with fire.
