Explosion in Ulsan

Twenty-four people were injured in a gunpowder explosion in a military unit in Ulsan. We take you to the scene in our next story.

Soldiers are rushed to the hospital on stretchers. They have burns and abrasions on their faces and limbs. In total, 24 have been injured. Most of the soldiers sustained minor injuries, such as ringing in the ears due to the explosion, but six victims have reportedly suffered serious injuries including burns and bone fractures. One of the soldiers has seriously injured his ankle and suffered burns all over his body. He was transported to a hospital in Seoul specializing in burn injuries by a military helicopter.

[Soundbite] Choi Byeong-ho(Emergency Medicine Specialist) : "We have provided burn wound dressings. One of the patients may become critical due to problems in his lungs caused by inhalation burns."

The accident, which occurred in a makeshift building on a simulated battlefield, was presumably caused by the explosion of gunpowder allocated for training. The military has launched an investigation into the military unit officials based on testimony that the discarded gunpowder was stored separately.
