On Sunday, during a large-scale international event taking place in China with the leaders of more than 20 nations attending, North Korea test fired another missile. The South Korean delegation strongly condemned the missile launch in a meeting with the North Korean representative.

The Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China brought together the leaders of 29 nations and some 1,500 dignitaries. It's a large-scale economic cooperation initiative led by China. As a major project of the Xi Jinping administration, itseeks to build a new Silk Road on land and sea. That's why Beijing was dumbfounded to hear the news that on the day this high-profile event kicked off, North Korea fired a missile. Chinese and Russian leaders met on the sidelines of the forum to express concerns over Pyongyang's provocation. China's Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that Beijing opposes Pyongyang's missile launch, which is in violation of the U.N. Security Council resolution. Park Byung-seok, head of the South Korean delegation, met with the chief of the North Korean delegation on Sunday to strongly condemn the missile provocation.

[Soundbite] Park Byung-seok(Chief of S. Korean Delegation) : "At the meeting, I strongly condemned the North's missile provocation as the delegation chief."

Park said he received the impression that the North Korean delegation chief, Kim Yong-jae, was looking forward to inter-Korean dialogue. Sources say that on Monday the South Korean delegation will meet with Chinese leadership to solve the conflict over the U.S. missile defense system and restore friendly ties between Korea and China.
