A special film festival is taking place inside running subway trains in Seoul. A total of 26 90-second films are screened on subway monitors and the winning film will be determined by passengers' votes.

Inside this running subway car, a movie is screened on the monitor which usually displays station information. Passengers are glued to the screens, drawn by the unfamiliar content.

[Soundbite] Hwang Eui-soo(Goyang, Gyeonggi-do Prov. Resident) : "Usually there are ads, but short films were shown today which was more eye catching. There's no sound but the movies are good."

This is the Seoul Metro International Subway Film Festival. A single film is just 90 seconds long, ideal for a short screening. 26 silent movies are to be screened, purposely devoid of audio due to the noise from the subway.

[Soundbite] Park Sang-mi(Seoul Metro) : "The event was planned with the aim of transforming the underground metro, which can easily become a dull and stuffy space, into a cultural venue."

Though just 90 seconds long, the films symbolically address various subjects such as time travel, labor pains, and the dynamism of the Korean martial art taekwondo. An animated film lampooning subway etiquette also draws particular attention.

[Soundbite] Im Dong-soo(Artist, Animated Film "Subway Etiquette") : "The film is about punishing public enemies who are not considerate of others in subway cars. It's a simple theme but it generates sympathy among introverted people."

The subway film festival continues through September 14 and the winning film will be determined through online voting by citizens.
