To counter North Korea's recent drills aimed at attacking South Korea's islands of Baeknyeongdo and Yeongpyeongdo, the South Korean Marine Corps held defense training on the northwest islands. Meanwhile, the Air Force held a massive drill to deter the North's aircraft in the sky.

Spike missiles are launched in succession toward an enemy infiltrating the country through a coastline. To the rear, K-9 artillery demonstrates its fire power to the fullest. Cobra attack helicopters provide aerial support. This field maneuver exercise began in daylight and lasted late into the night to simulate an enemy's invasion of Baeknyeongdo Island. The drill was held to counter a North Korean special commandos' exercise held late last month and attended personally by Kim Jong-un, aimed at raiding the islands of Baeknyeongdo and Yeonpyeongdo.
[Soundbite] Park Sung-chan(Marine Corps) : "We will destroy the enemy like an alligator waiting to kill its prey."
Air Force fighter jets appear in the sky. In this air combat maneuvering drill, fighters deter the enemy's aircraft penetrating the country at low altitude and strike the enemy's core weapons and sources of provocation. The exercise has been conducted twice a year exclusively by South Korea's Air Force since 2008. This year it deployed some 50 air control attack aircraft such as F-15K and KF-16 fighters and more than 500 troops.
