After months of heated debate, the decision is in on the fate of the Shingori 5 and 6 nuclear reactors. On Friday the state commission recommended the resumption of construction at the site. The commission reached the decision based on a survey of 471 citizens selected for the jury. Among them, 59.9% came out for the project, while 40.5% came out against it. The commission nevertheless suggested reducing dependence on nuclear energy in Korea. Construction is expected to resume next week as the government said it would accept whatever recommendation the commission made. The government is expected to endorse the recommendation in a Cabinet meeting set for Tuesday. The reactors were about 30 percent complete before construction was suspended in July.
