A box-shaped facility was built at a Peruvian elementary school at the foot of a mountain. Consisting of seven containers, it is an information and communications technology (ICT) experience center. Young students assemble and operate robots in virtual reality with smartphones or read Peruvian video books for children. They learn the basics of coding by moving robots with programming cards.
[Soundbite] 6th Grader : "It is amazing, since it is an advanced technology and they are the newest products in Peru."
A South Korean telecom company established the ICT experience center in Peru. It took two months to build the facility and another month to move it to the South American country across the Pacific Ocean.
[Soundbite] Han Soo-mi(SK Telecom) : "We came to Peru to generate social values overseas as well as at home."
Only two out of 28 students in a class have smartphones. With a huge gap in informational access, half of the class doesn't know any smartphone functions at all.
[Soundbite] Elementary School Computer Teacher : "It is an important technology in the contemporary world. But it is a different story in our reality."
Peruvian education authorities will operate the ICT experience center donated by the South Korean telecom company. It will be available around the country for the next three years.
