The 226 people hired illegally by the South Korean casino and resort Kangwon Land are likely to have their employment contracts cancelled soon, as the Moon administration executes a crackdown on hiring irregularities at public agencies. Here’s more.

The presidential office ordered all 226 people who landed jobs at Kangwon Land illegally be dismissed. The decision was made shortly after President Moon Jae-in received a report on employment irregularities at public institutions, and ordered his administration to address the matter promptly by punishing the ones responsible for the issue and dismissing those who were hired illegally.

[Soundbite] Kim Eui-kyeom(Cheong Wa Dae Spokesperson) : "President Moon has ordered officials at public agencies that fail to deal with hiring irregularities even after the revelations be punished sternly."

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, which oversees Kangwon Land, and other relevant government agencies will likely begin the process of dismissing such employees. According to a Cheong Wa Dae official this measure displays the government's determination to eradicate hiring irregularities by taking action ahead of indictments to be filed by prosecutors and court rulings. However, the top office added helping those who failed recruitment tests illegitimately may be a challenge, as there are no records of the test results from that period. Cheong Wa Dae's decision is expected to pave the way for punishing those responsible for hiring irregularities based only on the results of investigations into the involved institutions and supervisory organs.
