The police have apprehended a group of students studying abroad who smuggled illicit drugs to Korea. They used the deep web and digital currencies to facilitate their transactions, making them almost impossible for authorities to trace.

Authorities in the arrivals section of Incheon International Airport spot black plastic bags in a suitcase. The bags contain hashish, a drug made by condensing marijuana. It was smuggled in from the United States and India by three students studying abroad. The drugs' combined value reaches 800 million won. The drugs were delivered secretly by brokers, who dropped them off in designated areas and left. The perpetrators used a Web site called DeepWeb, an invisible site that cannot be found via normal web browsers. There, they post their products and lure customers. All the proceeds were wired to a designated bitcoin address. This was done to hamper police from tracing their IPs and bank accounts. But police were able to ferret them out after apprehending one of the drug users. Police have arrested 24 people on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act, and indicted 56 others without physical arrest.
