The U.S. has expressed hope that the inter-Korean summit will lead to peace on the Korean Peninsula. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement Thursday in Washington that the U.S wishes the Korean people well and is hopeful that the talks will help bring peace and prosperity to the region. Sanders added that the U.S is looking forward to continuing “robust discussions” with South Korea to prepare for a planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, which is set for the end of May or early June. She added that the U.S. appreciates the allies' close cooperation. The statement was released shortly after Kim and Moon exchanged greetings to start today’s summit.
